Fall Festivities To Round Out October
Photo Courtesy Of Denver Botanic Gardens
Fall has officially arrived when Denver has had its first official snowstorm and avoiding anything with pumpkin spice in its name becomes nearly impossible (which I’m not mad about!). It’s time to break out that autumn color palette in the form of flannels, blazers and jackets (you’ve missed all summer) and showcase them in their natural habitat – corn mazes, pumpkin patches, flannel fests and basically any festive October event for that matter. I’ve put together a list of my top five favorite fall events to attend before the end of the month. Enjoy!
#1 Chatfield Farms Pumpkin Patch + Corn Maze
Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays, Sept. 20-Oct. 27, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. (last entry 5 p.m.)
Make your yearly pilgrimage to the popular – Chatfield Farms – with the fam and get lost in their seven-acre maze, or check out the activities for all ages, a mini-maze (10 & under), food vendors and more! Pick the perfect pumpkin from the ten-acre patch to take home and create a carved work of art.
#3 Denver Botanic Gardens’ Glow at the Gardens
Monday – Friday, Oct. 21-25, 5:30-9:30 p.m.
Glow at the Gardens is a luminous, nighttime celebration of America’s favorite gourd. Using all real pumpkins harvested from local farms, pumpkin artists push the boundaries of traditional pumpkin carving to create larger-than-life sculptures, dense displays of jack-o-lanterns and ornately detailed showpiece pumpkins!
#4 Union Station’s Boonion Station: Trick-or-Treat Parade
Thursday, Oct. 24, 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Union Station is calling your little ghosts and goblins to enjoy a trick-or-treat parade through their property with balloon and face-paint artists, live entertainment and more!
Prizes will be given for best individual costume and best group/family costume. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
#5 Hotel Teatro’s Study Workshop: Pumpkin Carving with Grampa Bardeen
Sunday, Oct. 27, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Learn to carve the *perfect* pumpkin with instruction from the Master Carver himself – Grampa Bardeen. BYOP - Bring Your Own Pumpkin (a nice round one that will fit a piece of paper on the front), and they'll take care of the rest. Enjoy fall beverages and snacks, and take home your own specialty seasoning pack for toasting pumpkin seeds at home.
Tickets include a complimentary beverage, charcuterie and sweets to snack on, make-your-own seasoning packet courtesy of The Nickel and your own Grampa Bardeen Carving Set to take home. Costumes are encouraged (the best costume will receive a prize!). Visit http://bit.ly/2VMuyIh to purchase tickets.
Claude Monet: The Truth of Nature Debuted Oct. 21

The Truth of Nature Exhibit Oct 21, 2019 - Feb 2, 2020
Impressive back-to-back exhibitions for The Denver Art Museum have blessed our community within the past year and Claude Monet’s “The Truth of Nature” is going to be yet another tough show to follow.
From October 21, 2019 through February 2, 2020, The Denver Art Museum will house the most comprehensive U.S. exhibition of Monet paintings in more than two decades. The exhibition showcases over 120 paintings that take viewers on a journey spanning his career, showcasing the relationship between nature and the various, distinct places he worked.
Unlike many other impressionist artists at the time, Monet traveled far and wide to seek out new motifs including the Normandy coast, Mediterranean, London, the Netherlands and Norway. Those exploring the show will get a personal look into these travels in chronological order. Additionally, the presentation will take a deep dive into Monet’s interest with changing atmospheres, the reflective qualities of water and the effects of light, while examining his shift to focus on a series of the same subject matter later in his career.
Denver is lucky to be the only stop for this exhibition, which means I highly recommend purchasing tickets soon to explore the works of an iconic impressionist!
